Attractions of Friuli Venezia

  • Piazza Unità d'Italia in Trieste. Located in the city centre of Trieste, the Piazza Unità d'Italia is one of the largest of its kind in and around the city. Surrounded on three sides by neo-classical and baroque buildings, the rectangular square is bordered on the fourth side directly by the Gulf of Trieste and is thus one of the largest squares in Europe that are open to the sea. Around the square are buildings such as the Pallazo Communale Town Hall in eclectic style, the monumental Palazzo Modello, combining elements of classical antiquity and Local Renaissance with medieval and baroque styles, or the beautiful Palazzo Pitteri, the oldest building on the square, now serving as the headquarters of an insurance company, but preserved in its original state thanks to renovations.
  • Grotta Gigante - a cave located in Sgonico. Grotta Gigante is a cave located in Sgonico, in the province of Trieste in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. In 1995 it was entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest tourist cave in the world, and this fact can definitely encourage you to visit it! At 115 metres deep, the cave is covered with stalactites and stalagmites of various sizes, which is very impressive.
  • The Miramare Castle in the Friuli region. The charming Miramare Castle, built in 1856-1870 on the rocks above the sea, is a sight to behold. At first glance you might get the impression that it is a typical castle from a Disney fairy tale! Surrounding the building are perfectly preserved parks with rich Mediterranean vegetation, historic sculptures and ponds. There is also a botanical garden, a miniature castle and a palm house, the only place of its kind in northern Italy. The castle has numerous ornaments and beautifully carved columns, on top of which appear, among other things, figures of angels and other mythical creatures.
  • Lungomare di Barcola. The Promenade di Barcola is a four-kilometre-long flat strip paved with asphalt just above the seafront, stretching simultaneously from the Skabar Gardens to the beautiful Miramare Castle in Trieste, Italy. You can both walk and jog there, as well as sit near it and enjoy the beautiful views. Because of the surrounding parks that surround the Miramare Castle, relaxing in this area is truly unique and charming - there are numerous pubs and restaurants near Lungomare di Barcola where you can sample local delicacies. It is the perfect place for a lazy rest and a stroll just after you have finished visiting the Miramare Castle.
  • Friuli aegion - Rosandra Valley. Another charming place to visit is the Rosandra Valley, located between the city of Trieste and the border with Slovenia, precisely in the Friuli region. This valley is also part of a natural park, where beautiful trails are organised that lead to the best viewpoints of the area. The hills around the Rosandra Valley rise to around 412 m, and the biggest attractions here are undoubtedly the Supet waterfall and the historic church of Our Lady of Siaris. After exploring the valley and admiring the views, it's worth heading for a meal on the Slovenian side. A charming place where you can actively relax!
  • Natural History Museum in Trieste. For lovers of Local flora and fauna, the Museum of Natural History in Trieste, where more than two million botanical, zoological, mineralogical, geological and palaeontological specimens have been prepared, is an extremely interesting place. • Cividale del Friuli. Cividale del Friuli is a beautiful historic town located in northern Italy, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, in the province of Udine. The charming surroundings are mainly due to the Alps, at the foot of which the town is located, while being close to the border with Slovenia. Cividale del Fruli is a peaceful town, where time passes much more slowly than in the major Local metropolises. Its ancient history, unusual architecture and numerous monuments make it a popular destination. In the city, it is worth seeing the historic Devil's Bridge, of which Cividale del Friuli is actually the most famous, as well as the National Archaeological Museum, where we can see numerous excavations and exhibits from ancient times.
  • Sauris .The region of Venezia Giulia is very rich in small and charming villages and each of them has places worth seeing. Sauris, another town in the north of Italy, in the province of Udine, is no different. It has a population of around 4 000 inhabitants, but is nevertheless a place worth visiting if only for the beautiful Lago di Sauris, a lake whose emerald waters are reminiscent of the tropics, or the Zipline Sauris amusement park, where the main attraction is the Tyrolean train ride, a method of sliding down a rope suspended between a precipice on the two highest peaks in the area. An excellently organised amusement park, beautiful views and the surrounding lake are enough arguments to visit this small town!
  • Monte Santo di Lussari. Small mountain towns of great historical value are nothing unusual in Italy, especially around the Alps. A special place is Monte Santo di Lussari, a small hilltop settlement in the Julian Alps. Monte Santo di Lussari owes its fame mainly to the monastery built in the 16th century on top of the mountain, which is known as the Church of the "Three Peoples" because it is a place of pilgrimage for people of all three neighbouring linguistic families: Localic, Romanic and Slavic. In addition to the beautiful sanctuary in question, there is also a ski resort at Lussari, which can be reached by cable car. The most popular slopes for downhill skiing are at Di Prampero and Alpe Limerza.
