Travel planning. Package tour
Several advantages of planning a trip and tour. There can certainly be trips that require more commitment and it is important to look at them more carefully. Planning a trip can be great for many reasons, but it is not always a peaceful adventure. Sometimes going on a trip can be a big challenge and ruin your vacation.
Travel Planning. Idea
I know what you're thinking, didn't I say this was a benefit of travel? Well, it can also be a disadvantage. With someone else doing the travel planning, you won't be able to decide what to do. Sure, you wouldn't sign up for a trip that you're not interested in, but that doesn't mean you'll want to do everything on the itinerary. Researching and planning your trip and making your own choices about what activities you do (and when you do them) can play a big part in having a cool experience and enjoying your vacation.
Want a little more planned vacation without a full trip? Consider booking a day trip with a private guide.
Want even more control? Reserve time to plan your trip, create your own itinerary. Check out the itineraries and destinations offered by private guides for ideas.
Travel Planning. Traveling too fast
Many tours are organized to show you as many places as possible in the allotted time. While it may look cool on paper to see seven cities in 10 days, the pace of travel and tours can be too fast. Traveling too fast can lead to fatigue and burnout within a few days. Also, it's impossible to get a feel for a city in one or two days, and traveling at that pace will make you miss a lot. Would you want to go all the way to Paris and only see the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre?
Trip Planning. Lack of flexibility
When you're on a trip, you have to stick to a schedule. You can eat anywhere at your leisure, and maybe have some meals on your own, but for the most part, you will always have to stick to a predetermined schedule. This means you can't decide to sleep in one day, you can't spontaneously visit a museum you didn't know about before you arrived, and you may not even be able to decide which restaurants to eat at. Leaving room for spontaneity and flexibility can lead to great travel experiences.
Travel Planning. Crowdsourcing
While it can be great to meet new people on a tour, when you visit Rome with a private tour guide you are the center of his or her attention the entire time. When traveling in a group, you spend all your time in a large group. You have limited time to be by yourself. I love traveling, but sometimes you need a break from all the new things that are coming at you. You can't have that break if you are in a large group all the time. This is especially true if you are an introvert.
Travel Planning. Limited interactions with locals
A big part of what makes a place special is the people. Even if you don't speak the same language, the locals in Paris, London or Rome can show you the true character of the city you're vacationing in. But if you're taking a trip in a large group, you're unlikely to have any real encounters with the people who live there. There are exceptions, but you'll spend most of your time in a group, interacting with your local private guide and other travelers in your group. You will enjoy the sights, but not the personalities that make up the culture you are trying to explore.
Trip Planning. Adventure Deals
Trips can be great in the right situation, for the right type of traveler. But if you like having more control over your daily schedule (or just don't want a schedule) and enjoy being on your own, package tours may not be for you. Before you book a tour, weigh the pros and cons and decide what kind of vacation you're looking for. The disadvantages may lead you to consider an independent trip with a private guide.
