• TIMES SQUARE. Big screens with brightly coloured adverts flickering on them, traffic, yellow taxis - this is the image that usually comes to mind when hearing the phrase 'Times Square'. This New York City square used to be called Longacre Square. It was renamed in 1904, when the editorial office of the New York City Times moved into the New York City Times Building (now One Times Square).
